Big Time Rush Talks About New Album & Season Four With MTV

Get More: Music News

Big Time Rush just keep getting, well, bigger. Not only are the Nickelodeon stars in the midst of a 60-day North American tour, but they are also enjoying the success of their new single, "Windows Down," and celebrating news that their hit show, "Big Time Rush," has been renewed for a fourth season.

Don't expect to see the guys slowing down any time soon, though. Last week, MTV News caught up with Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena and Logan Henderson during their Big Time Tour stop at New York's Jones Beach, where they revealed that while on the road — and in between getting some new tattoos! — they've been hard at work on their third studio album.

"Got to admit it's hard to get a lot done in terms of recording and writing on the road because we have pretty busy schedules," Maslow said. "But we had a good friend of ours, Damon Sharpe, who helped write a lot of the music on the first couple albums, come out and we cut a song of his. And he's going to come back and we are going to start writing a little bit more and we're doing our best. We have another couple months to get some more stuff written."

The band has released two albums since 2010: Their debut, BTR,reached #3 on the Billboard albums chart and their 2011 sophomore album, Elevate, made it to #12. And much like with Elevate, the guys are hoping to take creative control of the project.

"It's been very important to us," Logan said of being heavily involved in the writing process for their upcoming album. "We are changing so much every single day, even as far as the music we listen to and the music we want to make. I think 'Windows Down,' that style was really the step in the direction where we really want to try something new."

And that sound seems to be working out for them. The summer anthem "Windows Down" is on track to become their biggest radio hit yet, sparked by their strongest first-week sales so far and a music video that now has more than 3 million views.

No word yet on when the third BTR album, but their devoted Rushers better get ready because the boys revealed that production for the 13-episode fourth season of "Big Time Rush" kicks off in January.
