24/seven has a song for everybody. There are classic pop songs like “Picture This”, “Like Nobody’s Around”, and “24/seven”, slower songs like “Run Wild” and “We Are”, and more upbeat songs like “Love Me Again” and “Just Getting Started”. With most of the songs being featured on the TV show, it’s really awesome to listen to it on the radio as well. The album features songs with Karmin and Jake Miller, and has co-writers like Matt Squire, Damon Sharpe, and Matt Thiessen of Relient K.
One of the first songs that caught my attention was “Like Nobody’s Around”. It’s written by the whole band, Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, Carlos Pena, and James Maslow. It’s about not worrying what anyone else thinks of you. It reminds us to just have fun and to be you. “We’re being who we are, even if they hate that”. I’ve seen the music video for this song, it’s adorable. They mimic *NSYNC, New Kids On The Block, and the Backstreet Boys. It’s safe to say that Big Time Rush is bringing back the boy bands.
A slower paced song is “Run Wild” written by Maslow. I guess you can say it’s the “YOLO” song off the album because it’s got an edgy sound, but with soft lyrics. It’s about taking chances and living for you. The song reflects that it’s okay to mess up and that it’s okay to be a rebel every once in a while. It gives us that reinforcement that we should be happy and live our lives to the fullest.
My favorites off the album are “We Are” and “Crazy For U”. “We Are” starts with simple piano chords and then carries in with Maslow and Schmidt’s vocals. My favorite line from this song is “young and dumb, always chasing something,” because it’s relatable. That’s literally how I feel; young and dumb and always chasing something. I feel like this song describes our generation. It’s definitely an inspiring song that makes me want to chase my dreams. “Crazy For U” is written by Schmidt and has a summer vibe to it. It reminds me of Sublime, with a splash of pop- a super weird combination, but it works perfectly. This is the epitome of someone who has a crush. It’s everything a girl would want a guy to be singing to her.
Honestly, the longer I listened to the album, the more I fell in love with it. You can tell that 24/seven was made for the fans and that they poured their hearts and souls into this album. All of these songs are family-friendly, but also good enough to listen to in your 20’s (like me!). If you do enjoy the high-energy and pop songs, Big Time Rush will be heading out on the Summer Break Tour with Victoria Justice this summer starting at the end of June.
